Todays featured sandwich is the Suite 709.

This sandwich is named after  the band Suite 709 and the genius musicians that make up the group who are very close friends of The Jalopy. Click here to view/listen (http://unlocksuite709.com/)

As you all may know we prepare our bread daily. This freshly made flat bread is composed of simple ingredients: coriander, cumin, dill, flour, sugar, salt and yeast. After we have the bread ready, we continue the masterpiece by adding our mouth watering braised chicken.

Jalopy Sandwich

Our chicken is brined overnight in salt, rosemary, and cider vinegar then stuff with the essentials: rosemary and garlic. After prepping, the chicken is placed in a braising pan with other delicious veggies then set to cook for about 3 hours.

Next up, we have the Tomatillo Cilantro Pesto, which is composed of cilantro, coriander, cumin, fresh garlic, diced green chilis, lemon juice, onions, parsley, soy bean oil, tomatillos and blended to perfection. All these ingredients are combined to make our tasty Suite 709 sauce. Lastly we top it off with, of course, our famous pickled onions.
The onions are cut julienne and brined in red wine vinegar, regular distilled vinegar, salt, sugar, black pepper, and cinnamon sticks. In order to pickle correctly its important to follow the proper pickling techniques.

The finished product is wrapped up tight and slid down the good ol’ Jalopy slide to be devoured by our most cherished customers (you know who you are!).

I know what your thinking, WHERE? HOW?
Your next move, Come by the Jalopy off of 15th and San Antonio and enjoy the Suite 709 (and our other delicious creations) to get a flavor of that sweet music!

GUESS WHAT HAPPENED!

The Jalopy is happy to announce that our most esteemed chef, Sarah De Perio, has been asked for her hand in marriage by long time boyfriend Swift Stewart Sparks III. We are ecstatic for the two and know that they will have a long life together filled with new adventures and experiences.  Swift and Sarah have become an integral part of the Jalopy family, and very near and dear to our hearts.  Jalopy gift cards for their registry!

Mark Bittman of the New York Times thinks the art of the sandwich has languished long enough, and offers tips on how to make your own fancypants sammy at home.

Seems he hasn’t been to the Jalopy! You can experiment with your pickled herring and compound butter all day long, or come see us. We care about the humble foodstuff more than most, so Mr. Bittman, never fear. We haven’t forgotten the sandwich. Thank you for suggesting what I’ll go ahead and say: sandwich-making is, in fact, an art form. It may be controversial, but then again, so was photography. And Impressionism, come to think of it. So visit our salon, yes? We promise not to give you impressionistic representations of food, it’ll be the real stuff.

Good afternoon friends and family!
I am one of ten finalists for a national teaching award called “The Great American Teach-Off” sponsored by The University of Phoenix and GOOD.  The general public votes for their favorite teacher based on 90-second videos that the finalists submit.
Each person can vote once per day, so please vote for me everyday until next Monday when the 2nd Round begins with a new 90-second video.  You can register your daily vote at GOOD’s website: http://cms.good.is/vote_contests/gato2#42
I am the only teacher in the finalist pool who was nominated from Texas, and I hope to add to our increasingly disproportionate share of hardware (NBA titles, MLB pennants, Top Chef winners, NCAA Football championships, Olympic gold medals, etc.).
Please forward this e-mail to your network of friends and colleagues to help me win the 1st place prize of $10,000 for my classroom.  There’s a lot of great things I could do for my students with that money, and it’s only given to first place!
Thanks for your support,
Mark

Hello everyone,

Today marks a glorious change in the Jalopy.  We will begin serving breakfast as well as staying open a little later.  We have too many of you people itching for sandwiches, that we feel obligated to give you a wider window to satiate your Jalopy fix for the week.  As of today are new hours will be:

Mon – Friday – 7AM – 10PM
Saturday – 10AM-10PM

We will be serving up a delicious Jalopy Miga Breakfast Taco in the morning for $2, as well as a few other crazy Jalopy creations.  Let us know what you think, and give us suggestions of what you want to see out of us.  Also, we might be thinking about doing some movie nights in the near future.  We’ll keep you posted.

Peace,
Nic

P.S.  We just finished a year long tournament and Jake is now the King of Darts at the Jalopy…i’m depressed
